The sound of the early morning rain hitting the window was soothing as Rogue sat in the kitchen eating cereal and reading her text book for the exam tomorrow. She looked down and smiled seeing her gloveless hand. It still made her smile that she was cured. That she could touch. For three months she had been able to touch without endangering anyone. Even the voices in her head had dissipated. She loved how quiet her mind was without those voices whispering or even screaming in her head. Now it was so much easier to study.

She was smiling as she saw a groggy Jubilee walk into the kitchen and run a hand through her long brunette hair. Jubilee was wearing a pair of pale yellow pajamas. It was her favorite color. Like her personality, bright loud and happy. Rogue had started hanging out with Jubilee when Bobby left her to be with Kitty.

With that thought Rogue looked down at her cereal and tried not to think about the day Bobby had told her that he didn't want to be with her anymore. She didn't hold it against him. She had known for a while that he was only with her because he felt bad for her. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. She had told them they could still be friends but she they still weren't really hanging out. She had even forgiven Kitty. But they were not really hanging out. Rogue knew it was because they still felt guilty.

She shook her head slowly making those thoughts fade away as she went back to her cereal and text book. A piece of her white stripe in her hair fell out of her ponytail holder and into her eyes. She had cut her hair so that it fell just passed her shoulders. Jubilee said it looked good on her. Jubilee set a glass of orange juice in front of her.

Rogue smiled over at her as Jubilee snatched her notes and started studying. "You really need to take your own notes Jubilee."

She giggled over her own juice at Rogue. "Well you just enjoy studying so much that I thought you could do it for the both of us." Jubilee giggled again as she popped a piece of gum into her mouth.

Rogue heard a few other students go into the living room and turn on the TV. She heard Logan's growl of a voice come from the living room. "Hey, wait. Turn it back to the news." Rogue smiled at the sound of Logan's voice and got up with her juice in hand and Jubilee trailing behind her. They got into the living room and Rogue was about to say good morning to Logan until she heard something about the cure on the news.

The ancor woman suddenly looked very nervous as she announced. "I am sorry to report that the some of the mutants who have been given the Cure have suddenly been getting their powers back late last night. It seems that the Cure does not work permanently. Again I repeat. The Cure is failing-"

Rogue didn't hear anything else as she felt the smile leave her face and the glass in her hand slip from her grasp. She couldn't take her eyes off the screen as the glass shattered and splashed her bare legs because she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. She didn't even see Logan spin around with his claws out at the loud sound of her glass shattering on the wood floor. She finally looked down at the mess she had made as the hollow feeling came washing back into her as the air seemed to escape her in a silent cry of turmoil. She couldn't take another breath. There didn't seem to be any air to breath anymore. There was suddenly a heavy and painful feeling of loss inside her all mixed with denial and a horrifying realization that she will never be cured. Never.

She caught the sight of Jubilee and Logan reaching out for her. That was what broke her from her breathless existence. She took a ragged breath as she twisted away from them and hit the door frame with her back as she recoiled from them. "NO! Don't TOUCH Me!"

She heard Logan's deep voice calling her name softly. Almost painfully. "Marie?"

Rogue shook her head as she felt a lump form in her throat and her chest clench as she knew that she had lost the last part of her that used to be Marie when that announcement came on. "No! Not any more..." That's when her heart seemed to be covered in ice. Like Bobby had just snuck up on her and frozen the one thing that kept her alive. She was filled with bitterness and heartache. "Not ever again..." she turned away and ran all the way to her room. She heard Jubilee and Logan calling out her name but she just kept going.

Sarah got home and immediately noticed that something was wrong; she walked in cautiously, drawing her gun.
"Well, it's nice to see you again Sarah..." the figure turned on the light above her dining room table, smiling as if she wasn't aiming her gun at his head.
"I told you that I'm not working with you anymore; so get out of my house..." she growled.
"Well, I came to see if maybe I could change your mind..." he was still smiling. "You see, they really want someone with your particular set of skills under contract with them..."
"Forget it!" she sneered, green eyes sharp.
He pulled out a photograph. "Wasn't it your mom that taught you how to drive so well? Isn't she getting out of jail, what, next week?"
The threat was implied but real. "Leave her alone..." she whispered, swallowing and losing her nerve.
"And what about your brother? I heard that he's a crack shot with just about any gun..."
"Don't even..."
"And what about that boy from earlier? Jesse?" more pictures, them at the bar sipping at their drinks. "Skilled in multiple forms of fighting, guns, knifes, cons... someone like that..."
"Stop!" she screamed as he threw one last photograph on the table; they were on the bridge kissing. "Fine! I'll..." she felt defeated. "I'll do it... just, leave them alone... leave all of my friends alone... I'll do what you want..."
"Good. We have an agreement then." he smiled, victorious. "Your first job will be tomorrow; we'll contact you." he turned to leave.
"Wait. I have a race tomorrow..." the look on his face asked her 'So?'. "I can't miss it; if I do they'll know something's wrong... You don't want anyone to know, right?"
"Fine." he left.
Sarah fell to her knees, feeling broken and violated. She let them get to her, she wanted to cry...
She forced herself to get to her feet and go to bed; after-all, she had a race tomorrow...
